How Do Temperature Measuring Instruments Work?

 

The temperature transmitter works by receiving a signal from a temperature measuring sensor, such as a thermocouple or a resistance temperature detector (RTD). This signal is usually a direct, but non-linear representation of the temperature. The industrial temperature transmitter takes this signal and converts it into a linear 4-20mA current signal. This current signal can be easily read by control systems or displays. The 4-20mA signal is also less susceptible to noise and can be transmitted over long distances, making it ideal for industrial applications.
